We have another incredible piece of uplifting news to share with you: the ASPCA® (The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals®) has awarded a $1 million grant to support the rebuilding of Brother Wolf’s Adoption Center!

This extraordinary grant is helping move our vision forward: a vibrant, lifesaving space where animals can find safety, care, and loving homes for generations to come. It is also part of a much larger story of support from the ASPCA during the most difficult chapter in Brother Wolf’s history.

After flooding from Hurricane Helene destroyed our shelter, the ASPCA lent a critical helping hand by opening its doors to Brother Wolf, providing us with temporary space at the ASPCA Spay/Neuter Alliance where we could continue saving lives. Thanks to that space, more than 900 Brother Wolf animals were adopted into loving homes in 2025, and hundreds more were supported with much-needed medical care.

To have the support of the ASPCA at this moment is humbling in the truest sense. It is the oldest, and one of the largest, animal welfare organizations in the country, and its continued investment in Brother Wolf speaks to the strength of this community, the urgency of the work ahead of us, and the ASPCA’s belief in the importance of what we’re building to impact animals in Western North Carolina.

“Brother Wolf Animal Rescue’s commitment to providing veterinary, sheltering and adoption services in the wake of Hurricane Helene has been extraordinary,” said Matt Bershadker, president and CEO of the ASPCA. “The ASPCA has a history of serving animals in Western North Carolina, and we are grateful for the opportunity to work alongside our local partners to address animal welfare challenges, expand access to care, and help improve outcomes for vulnerable cats and dogs across the region.”

With this generous funding to support the rebuilding of our Adoption Center, the ASPCA is helping us take another step forward.

Our Adoption Center will allow us to increase adoptions, support overcrowded shelter partners, and create more lifesaving opportunities for animals across our region. It will be a place built from everything this community has carried us through, and everything we know is still possible.

We are deeply grateful to the ASPCA for believing in Brother Wolf Animal Rescue and for helping champion this next chapter in our rebuilding journey through this incredible grant.

Together with you, our community of caring supporters, we’re rebuilding a future where animals get the second chances they have always deserved.

Together, we save lives.
