Outward Hounds Hiking Club

Our Outward Hounds Hiking Club gets Brother Wolf dogs out of our bustling Adoption Center and onto local trails several times per week for exercise, fresh air, and opportunities to socialize with people and other dogs.

  • Outward Hounds hikers are approved volunteers who have completed the Shelter Dogs 101 class
  • Hikes average between 3-5 miles in length
  • Hikes are easy to moderate, and may include locations such as the Blue Ridge Parkway, Montreat College in Black Mountain, The North Carolina Arboretum, Warren Wilson College, and the Biltmore Estate
  • Hike leaders or Brother Wolf staff will assist hikers with dog selection and harnessing
  • Carpooling to hike locations is encouraged but may be limited depending on the dogs
  • Dogs should be crated in cars
  • Hikers must be at least 16 years old and any hiker under 18 must be accompanied by a parent.

Hiking group size is limited, so please sign up through our volunteer database using the login information you received at your orientation.
