In 2013, Dickenson County had one of the highest kill shelters in the state of Virginia – “euthanizing” 90% of dogs, and 100% of cats!

With the support of Brother Wolf Asheville and local Dickenson community members, by 2015 the ‘euthanasia’ rates had dropped to 58% for dogs, and 25% for cats.

In 2016, the Brother Wolf Dickenson County Chapter was officially created, and the dream of turning Dickenson Co. into a No-Kill community was quickly becoming a reality. In 2016 and 2017, ZERO cats were euthanized and no dogs were killed for space in the county shelter.

We will continue to work closely with Animal Control and county/town officials to further our No-Kill mission in Dickenson County. Together, along with the community, we have saved over 700 lives in the last 4 years!

In 2018, we look forward to expanding our foster program, growing our volunteer network, and creating close relationships within our community as we focus on bringing more awareness and resources to the residents of Dickenson County.
