"We have the power to build a new consensus, which rejects killing as a method for achieving results. And we can look forward to a time when the wholesale slaughter of animals in shelters is viewed as a cruel aberration of the past. We have a choice. We can fully, completely, and without reservation embrace No Kill as our future. Or we can continue to legitimize the two-pronged strategy of failure: adopt a few and kill the rest. It is a choice which history has thrown upon us. We are the generation that questioned the killing. We are the generation that has discovered how to stop it. Will we be the generation that does?" - Nathan Winograd
Brother Wolf Animal Rescue working towards a no-kill community
Brother Wolf Animal Rescue Brother Wolf Animal Rescue was established in 2006. We started off as a very small group of people, taking dogs and cats from gassing shelters in GA. We found wonderful homes for these animals but realized while we were saving these particular animals, we had a much bigger problem in our community that we needed to face. Perfectly healthy, highly adoptable animals in our community are being euthanized every day because people say there are not enough homes for them. That, in fact, is not true. The truth of the matter is that there are enough homes for all the homeless animals in our country, but we need to do a better job of getting them there. Did you know that the majority of people either buy their dogs from a breeder or from a pet store? Most people don't understand that when they buy their dogs from pet stores they are, in fact, supporting a puppy mill. No reputable breeder would ever sell a dog to a pet store. To learn more about the suffering of puppies and dogs in pet stores, please visit www.stoppuppymills.com. Encourage your friends and family to adopt a shelter pet. Shelter animals are not broken or damaged goods. They are perfectly wonderful animals who have ended up homeless through no fault of their own. BWAR is known for their excellence in matching people with the best dog or cat that would suit their lifestyle. Looking for a purebred dog? You don't need to go to a breeder. 25% of animals in shelters are purebred. If we don't have what you are looking for, we will help you find it. We can put you in contact with breed specific rescues throughout the country.
We are proud to have the largest NO-KILL shelter in Asheville. Please stop by and visit with some of the wonderful cats and dogs, kittens and puppies awaiting adoption. We're open Monday through Friday, 6 a.m. - 8 p.m., Saturday 8 a.m. - 8 p.m., Sunday 8 a.m. - 6 p.m.

How great are these kids?
Thanks Susan Andrew of the Mountain Xpress, for introducing us to some representatives of the next generation of animal rescues! Three girls on a self-imposed mission to raise funds for Brother Wolf – Audrey and Katie Kayser and Maggie Kimmett – set up their booth on Wall Street in Asheville, attracting passers-by to take a look at their display, have a drink of lemonade, and make a donation while Audrey played her violin. Click here to read the whole story. Keep up the good work, ladies!

Do you help to care for feral cats? Then why not help homeless cats and get your ferals spayed/neutered for FREE?! Simply bring your feral cats (four per caregiver) to the Humane Alliance Spay/Neuter Clinic in Asheville, NC, for three days of behavioral observation and attentive care in clean, comfortable veterinary cages. After your cats are spayed or neutered, you will take them back to their home territory.Cats must be between six months and 10 years old, in good health and not pregnant, nursing or in heat.
