Our Guardian Angels

Brother Wolf is lucky that through it's network of volunteers and foster homes and with the generosity of it's donors, that we can take in special needs pets; those that are elderly, ill, and in desperate need of care.

Pyry

Pyry was found wandering around the very large parking lot of an area business. She was terribly lucky to be in the right place at the right time to be discovered by a Brother Wolf volunteer as he was leaving for the evening; Pyry was days, if not hours, from death. She was rushed to the vet with a numerous wounds and a days-old prolapsed uterus which had become infected and she was septic. But this beautiful girl has an amazing will to live and survived not only the surgery but the next few days of recovery. A week after her initial emergency surgery she was back in to the vet with further problems which the vet was able to repair, but at that visit it was discovered she also has mild heartworms. We're hopeful that a milder treatment than the usual potentially life-threatening medication will cure her. Despite her numerous problems, we're very positive that Pyry will make a full recovery, and this brave girl is certainly doing her part! Donations are most welcome towards her care.

Sleepy

Sleepy is a 14 week old mixed breed puppy (pitbull mix) who was turned into a local vets office for euthanasia because he had a defective ear and the owner could not afford to have the ear fixed.  Nobody could visualize an ear canal and it was uncertain if this was a congenital defect or the result of an abscess that was never treated.  The vets office was uncomfortable euthanizing an otherwise healthy puppy and had the owner drive around to different rescues and places to find an alternative.  BWAR, even though we are at full capacity with dogs at our shelter and in foster homes, met this adorable puppy and seeing the obvious pain he was in, could not turn him away.  We agreed to take in this little guy even after knowing how hard it is to find homes for anything that looks even remotely like a pitbull and knowing that his pre existing condition would cost us a lot of money to repair. We're happy to report that Sleepy's surgery was successful and that with ongoing TLC and antibiotic therapy, we expect him to make a full recovery. Mom & Babies!

This sweet girl and her 5 pups were strays trapped by Animal Control and brought to a Brother Wolf supporter for temporary foster care rather than facing euthanasia at the shelter. The mom is very friendly, but a little shy at first.  She looks to be an Australian Shepherd mix, approximately 40 pounds. Because newborns are so susceptible to disease, we couldn't take the chance of bringing the little family in to our shelter and a desperate plea went out to our network of foster homes, hoping someone could take them in. Within a few hours, we got the happy news that space was made and Brother Wolf could help! While everyone seems in good health, we are seeking donations to care for these guys for the next seven weeks until they're old enough for adoption. Costs will include regular checkups, testing, medications, and quality food for a nursing mom and little ones. Thank you

!

Gunner

After Gunner was rescued from a high kill shelter, his foster mom noticed that he had a

skin infection.  It was determined that Gunner had a nasty case of ringworm, requiring a trip to the vet and special medications.  Shortly thereafter, he was diagnosed with a life threatening disease called parvo and has been fighting for his life at a vets office where it is touch and go, day by day.  Our vet bills for Gunner are already near $800.  Please help this boy and donate to his medical care.

Lola

Lola was found in horrific conditions.  She was matted over beyond recognition; couldn't even tell what type of dog she was.  She'd been ound as a stray and most shelters would have never accepted a senior pet that looked like she did but we could not turn away.  After she was cleaned up by our groomer, her little sweet personality came out.  Her current vet bills have exceeded $400 for dental surgery and to be spayed. A donation to her care would be greatly valued.
