Dennis

Our story proves that you can bring an adult cat into a home with other adult cats – if you are determined and above all else, patient.

On a visit to Petsmart to buy food for our existing three cats, we saw Dennis, a four year old orange tabby male in the adoption room.  He came to the front of the window, looked up at us and started making biscuits.  An Orange Boy!  That face just melted our hearts.  Not looking to add another cat to our family, we left.  However, we could not get him out of our hearts.  This is a special boy that needs a forever home!  We took Dennis home on April 14, 2010, and since we had to introduce an adult male cat to three other adult male cats, we kept him in a separate room so that all would realize that there was someone new in the house.  We were determined to make this work, so we took it slow.  One week later we started introductions.  We put Dennis in a carrier and showed him to one cat a time, keeping the others in another room.  Then later that day, we let Dennis out of his room to meet the other cats, one at a time until all were present.

To our surprise there were only a couple of nervous hisses, but Dennis was so calm, that he put our other cats at ease.  Within two days, they were lying next to each other!  Dennis’s new name is now Benny and he is happy, relaxed and very much at home with his new brothers.  He is a special buddy to our one year old and they chase each other through the house.  He also gives our other cats little “head butts” as his greeting.  Benny is the sweetest, calmest, and easy-going cat I’ve adopted.  He climbs on our laps, gives a head butt, curls up and relaxes.  But then, he’s an orange boy!  We can’t imagine how he ended up in an animal shelter but are so thankful that Brother Wolf found him!
