Cada and Rascal
Sisters Rascal, Cada, and Stephanie were being given away at a yard sale in Black Mountain at a very young age weighing just over a pound. They seemed like healthy, happy girls but at their first checkup, Stephanie tested positive for Feline Leukemia. This sad diagnosis is often a death sentence; most rescues don't have the resources to foster positive kitties in quarantine, and it's nearly impossible to find them homes as adopters can have no other cats, or their cats must already have the disease. But fate was smiling when, after reading their story in our newsletter, a company in Weaverville offered to keep the two girls who had tested negative for 6 weeks until they could be retested. Stephanie was taken in by the wonderful folks at the Friends for Life Forever Farm in Lake Toxaway where she'll live with other Feline Leukemia positive kitties unless she's adopted. After the six week waiting period, Cada still tested negative while Rascal has come up positive. But after all that time loving them, the employees at the company decided there was no way these girls wouldn't have the chance they deserve, and have adopted them! There the sisters will spend their lives, however long or short they may be, spoiled rotten by all they loving family they could want. Sometimes all it takes for special needs pets to find a home is a little extra time and some very big hearts.
"My two are amazing, fun, living the big life, and better than a good stand-up comedian. We are so happy to have them with us. Everyone in the office adores them, they get along great with the dogs and they haven't done any serious damage although our toilet paper expense has risen."
